Trinket

about

Finally, a halfway decent song title inspires a halfway decent song. When I submitted it for consideration on the second Uncontrollable Few album, it was correctly observed that not only were the lyrics a smidge overdramatic, but the combination of 12-string arpeggios and the key of A minor made it sound like "Hotel California." The song was never mentioned again.

lyrics

you're not crying, but the thought is there
we've got to end this love affair
before we do something the both of us regret
we're not kissing, but our lips are there

blue electricity in my veins
with twitching i cannot contain
as i slowly break into an icy sweat
all my blood is freezing in my veins

i want to stay so i guess i should leave
i'd like to say things that make you believe you still love me

you love me, but it's not enough
i think i need some other stuff
to make me feel like i have some control
because i don't think i have enough

we each know what the other thinks
so you know how much i want a (wanna) drink
to drown the pain and logic in my soul
because sometimes i don't care what you think

i want to stay so i guess i should leave
i'd like to say things that make me believe you still love me

i've got a mind to call you now
but there's too much sweat upon my brow
who knows if you'll confirm my biggest fears
there's nothing i can do about you now

i know how much you meant to me
but now that's a memory
i've got nothing to show for all of those years
except the trinkets that you sent to me

i want to stay so i guess i should leave
i'd like to say things that make you believe you still love me
