A Candlelight Vigil was a collaboration between myself and Nathan Levi, who I had met on an of Montreal Live Journal community. He sent over a set of lyrics and I'd do my best to set tunes to them. One project that never got fully hatched was "The Stakeout," an indie-prog song cycle set in a meth house. Rough demos of one or two of the tracks ended up on our MySpace, of which this is one.
lyrics
we've reached the border that frames us within this picture
ghosts in the wind as (we) burn the proof of the things we did
we reflect on our reflections, our souls sold for silence
their intentions are too intense, we shield our eyes from glare
we sleep the day away and work the graveyard shifts
we make our beds with the flowers and wait with the worms
light the pack the (?) and the match
we kiss the day away and stick to this beaten path
who's behind this course?
is it you, is it me, or is it another, one we still have yet to see?
bottles broken, necks and bodies
these elongated fingers crawl, they trace the curves
heat will raise as it licks the back of our necks
in the morning of bodies that will heal in time
as we withdraw our sharp wit and clever lies
we are a match, a spark, we slipped on silver tongues
head to the horizon with the eyes away from sunrises
sungloss shadows whispers in the air
my heart and head ache with noise from the streets
i let the top down as you begin to undress my eyes
my hand on yours, we've switched gears
find a quick way out if we are to make headway
the scene lays in disa(rr)ay
those of many alleged allies
strung out along the floorboards
i am just a witness, quick to dismiss this
can we still make the mistakes that lead us to take these hearts?
the stakeout has been found out
we break out to run
this plan is far from finished
