I was going to leave this percussionless originally, but I decided to keep the Adobe Audition metronome and add some rhythmic slapback echo to fancy it up a little. It started a little like Elvis Costello but ended up in a different place entirely.
lyrics
the words the lies the fallen years
i never thought would end but then they did pass
the ones who cried the bitter tears
that poured like holy water in a shot glass
well now that seems so far away from me
i'll breathe the winter air because i'm free to see what i can be
and there'll
come a day
when you'll get to this place
with nothing to say
to the wide empty space
and then
look around
and you'll see me sitting there
when
we have found
there's no need for splitting hairs
there's no need for splitting hairs
it's flooding in my memory
the photos hanging on the clothesline wet and soaked
the mirrors hung strategically
the candles lit to hide the cigarette smoke
well you've got to take the bitter with the sweet
there's nothing that you've done you can delete or people that you meet
and there'll come a day
when you'll get to this place
with nothing to say
to the wide empty space
and then look around
and you'll see me sitting there
when we have found
there's no need for splitting hairs
there's no need for splitting hairs
this world can show us all a lot
you've got to take the wise ones with the loud fools
the ones who don't know what they've got
complaining like a workman blaming his tools
let's kick down every door along the way
although it seems like it is a cliche it's what i want to say
for there'll come a day
when you'll get to this place
with nothing to say
to the wide empty space
and then look around
and you'll see me sitting there
when we have found
there's no need for splitting hairs
there's no need for splitting hairs
there's no need for splitting hairs
(the words the lies the fallen years)
there's no need for splitting hairs
(the ones who cried the bitter tears)
