A long-abandoned song given new life with new lyrics and an interesting guitar arrangement (where all the chords in the verses are played one note at a time). A song about an age-old moral dilemma that is, to some extent, obsolete due to the new blogging craze. Now we can all see what's in people's diaries: mundane trivialities, lame emo posturing and surveys to find out which Backstreet Boy you are. Alright, maybe not that last one.
lyrics
lying is a dangerous crime
cuz you get caught every time
oh it's a dangerous crime
trying to forgive and explain
won't make it go away
oh it's always in vain
that's why we should try to be true
knowing what we can't do
oh we should try to be true
but sometimes my curiosity
gets the better of me
oh-oh it must be appeased
i know it's not right for me to want to read
i know it's not right
i know it's not right to read your diary
i hope i'll keep my hands off tonight
lying on the carpeted ground
when there is no one around
a-and it's all leather-bound
maybe i should just read a page
there would not be much rage
if i just read a page
but what if there was something i'd see
that i couldn't unread
something you couldn't tell me
i could not look you in the eye
because it would be a lie
oh what a dangerous crime
i know it's not right for me to want to read
i know it's not right
i know it's not right to read your diary
maybe a peek would be alright
i know it's not right for me to want to read
i know it's not right
i know it's not right to read your diary
i think i'll keep my hands off tonight
