Staccato Stilettos

from Commuter Fatigue by Charlie Crane

/

about

Recorded February 24 at Viking Studio. Dedicated to the immaculately-attired baristas and clientele at the Intelligensia in the Monadnock building in Chicago (a common pre-class ritual when I started Columbia).

lyrics

staccato stilettos speared
her lipstick-smeared cigarette
and it's all that i could do to stay upright

behind her in the cafe line
her perfume smelt of sparkling wine
i reminded myself staring ain't polite

well, i'm a freshman fish out of water
and she could be a senator's daughter
eye contact's not even in the cards

grabbing my large coffee to go,
i ventured out into the snow
but as i left i thought i caught her smile
