Che Guevara Goes To The Mall

from February Album Writing Month by Charlie Crane

/

about

This one's prefaced by a minute-long introduction bit before the real song begins. It's a commentary on the kinds of people who wear Che Guevera t-shirts without any clue as to what his achievements were. They just see a rebellious image and latch onto it. The chorus contains Che's famous last words, a message of hope to the people he left behind. Too bad they decided to commercialize his message. It's also somewhat influenced by listening to a conspiracy theory acquaintance of mine rabbiting on about the government putting drugs in flu shots and the JFK assassination.

lyrics

i'm gonna start a revolution
once i decide what i should wear
i've seen no problems or solutions
but my shirt proves we're halfway there

i'm gonna be the second gunman
i'll prove the warren commission wrong
i think the fight has just begun man
the rapture will happen before long

i'm che guevara's biggest fan
shoot, coward, you're only going to kill a man

i think i'll go up to the president
do a nasty on the white house lawn
although i might get a little hesitant
i'll smoke some pot to calm me down

i know the government is after you
i read it in a magazine
outlawing sex and peace and laughter too
control your mind through their caffeine

i'm che guevara's biggest fan
shoot, coward, you're only going to kill a man

i'll have a grande cafe latte
can't start a war when your throat's dry
i'll make a powerpoint to display
the arguments and reasons why

so i'm gonna buy some memorabilia
and wear my heart upon my sleeve
companies profit off necrophilia
nostalgia that we have achieved

i'm che guevara's biggest fan
shoot, coward, you're only going to kill a man
